The international law at the college of Law, University of Baghdad, held a scientific symposium for a published scientific research entitled (difficulties of applying international criminal jurisdiction), presented by the lecturer at the international law (Dr. Luma Abdel Baqi Mahmoud) on Tuesday 2024/3/26 in the building of the college of law.
The research aims to identify the difficulties that hinder the application of international jurisdiction, which would reduce the effectiveness of this jurisdiction and make the phenomenon of impunity common and unchecked.
The research reached several recommendations, the most important of which is proposing to the Iraqi legislator to amend Article (13) of the Iraqi Penal Code no. (111) for the year 1969 amended, and the amendment will be through the introduction of new crimes in its content, such as crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of genocide, it is proposed to the Iraqi government and the rest of the Arab governments to make a unified law that takes on the responsibility of combating some serious criminal phenomena that have plagued Arab countries such as terrorism and crimes of human trafficking or drugs.
