The college of law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis in the criminal law of the student (Ziada Fakher Elias Haji), entitled with(criminal protection for victims of the crime of slavery / Yazidis as an example), on Monday, 2024/01/29 at the conference hall at the college.
The thesis aims at the subjectivity of the crime of slavery, including the methods currently used and legal means under Iraqi law as well as international humanitarian law, and the statement of the Yazidi women’s issue, documented academically and presented to the official authorities concerned with the state, decision makers and the international community in order to redress the victims and provide legal justice.
The thesis included two chapters, the first one dealt with the concept of criminal protection for victims of the crime of slavery and the second chapter the legal regulation of the crime of slavery .
The thesis came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is to amend the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969 in a manner appropriate to the type of crimes committed such as crimes against humanity and crimes of genocide, to speed up serious, transparent and sterile investigations into the crimes committed by the organization of terrorist gangs Daesh against the Yazidi component and bring the perpetrators inside or outside Iraq to justice .
