The international law at the college of Law, University of Baghdad, held a scientific seminar entitled (The crime of terrorism in the Geneva Conventions of 1949), presented by a lecturer in the international law (Asst.lect.Mohammed Ismail Juma), and in the presence of college lecturers, staff and students, on Wednesday, 2023/11/29 at the model courtroom at the college.

The aim of the seminar is not to take the concept of terrorism as an argument for refraining from applying the rules of international humanitarian law during non-international armed conflicts.

The seminar included several topics, the most important parts are the concept of terrorism and international humanitarian law, how to deal with terrorism in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, the distinction between terrorism and the right to self-determination.

The seminar came up with several recommendations, the most important of which is the need to amend the Geneva Conventions and stipulate the mechanism for dealing with the crime of terrorism in accordance with recent developments.
