At the College of Law/ University of Baghdad, The international law holds a scientific seminar entitled (International Child Kidnapping within the Framework of The Hague Conference on Private International Law), presented by the lecturer at the International Law (Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Salem Abd), and in the presence of college lecturers, staff and students, on Sunday, 2023/11/12 at the model courtroom at the college.

The seminar aims to clarify what it means to kidnap a child from a family member by analyzing the concept of international child abduction as well as demonstrating the available mechanisms for combating it.

The seminar included several topics, including a statement of the concept of international child abduction under the Hague Convention on civil aspects related to the international abduction of children under the age of sixteen and a statement of the legal mechanisms monitored to confront international child abduction and ways to achieve them, whether preventive or curative.

The seminar came up with several recommendations, the most important of which is to confront the phenomenon of child abduction or illegal detention across the border by a family member and find national solutions consistent with the best interest of the child and the protection of custody rights, calling on the competent authorities in Iraq to take the necessary measures to raise awareness of the provisions of The Hague Convention and abide by it by the relevant government institutions.
