The Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/ college of law, held a scientific seminar entitled (reasons for the refusal of some Islamic countries from joining the International Criminal Court), presented by a lecturer in the international law (Asst. lect.Mohamed Ismail Jumma), and in the presence of a number of the college lecturers, staff and students, on Tuesday, 2023/11/07 at the conference hall at the college.

The statute of the International Criminal Court was adopted in 1998 and entered into force in 2002 after 60 countries ratified the statute, in order to combat and punish the most serious types of crimes at the international level, represented by the crime of aggression, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of genocide.

The workshop included several topics, the most important part is the reasons for the reluctance of Islamic countries to join the International Criminal Court and its analysis in accordance with the provisions of the statute of the International Criminal Court.

The seminar came up with several recommendations, including the need for Arab and Islamic countries to join the International Criminal Court in order to have a hearing voice in the most important criminal judicial system at the international level.
