The College of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis in the branch of criminal law by student Rawaa Subhan Farhan, titled “Measures to Prevent and Detect Electronic Fraud in the Banking Sector,” on Thursday, October 19, 2023, in the college building.
The thesis aims to highlight the mechanisms that can be used to prevent and detect this crime, ensuring the security and safety of society, its stability, and the protection of individuals’ and financial institutions’ funds, including banks of various types and activities, from attacks. It also aims to safeguard the economic security of the country, both domestically and internationally.
The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter discusses the conceptual framework of electronic fraud in the banking sector, the second chapter covers the mechanisms to prevent electronic fraud in the banking sector, and the third chapter focuses on the mechanisms to detect electronic fraud in the banking sector.
The thesis concludes with several recommendations, including suggesting that financial institutions utilize the latest security devices and systems that provide a high level of security for online banking transactions. It also proposes the establishment of specialized courts for electronic crimes, considering the different nature of these crimes compared to traditional crimes.
