The College of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed a PH.D thesis in the branch of private law by the student (Abdullah Awad Rashid), entitled “Credit Policy and its Role in Granting Banking Credit Facilities – A Comparative Study,” on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in the conference hall of the college.
The thesis aims to address the most important topics related to the development process directly. The credit policy adopted by banks has a direct impact on the national economy, given the crucial role that banks play in providing credit facilities to individuals and companies for investments and stimulating economic growth.
The thesis included three chapters. The first chapter discussed the nature of credit policy, the second chapter discussed the nature of credit facilities, while the third chapter addressed the bank’s means of reducing credit facility risks and the responsibilities associated with that.
The thesis concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which is for the Iraqi legislator to enhance banking, financial, and regulatory laws, contributing to strengthening the banking and financial system in the country. It also suggests that the Iraqi legislator follow the lead of comparative legislation and explicitly stipulate the removal of the name of any bank that violates prevailing laws, regulations, and instructions regarding its credit policy.
