The Criminal Law Department at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific seminar entitled “Criminal Liability of Social Media Managers for Crimes Committed through them”. The seminar was delivered by the lecturer in the Criminal Law Department, Mr. Duraid Walid Nazal, and was attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students of the college. The seminar took place on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in the Model Courtroom at the college.
The seminar aims to clarify the criminal liability of social media managers, as it is known that the publisher is held accountable for the crimes committed through these platforms. These platforms are public means that contribute to the escalation of certain crimes, such as defamation and slander, committed through social media, in accordance with the general provisions of criminal liability. However, the issue becomes more complex for individuals who manage these platforms, which requires clarification of their criminal responsibility.
