The College of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed on Tuesday, 26/09/2023, in the conference hall of the college, a master’s thesis in the field of private law by the student (Israa Muhammad Razzaq) entitled (Legal regulation of venture capital companies – a comparative study).
The thesis aims to develop a comprehensive concept of the nature of venture capital activity, the method of establishing a company, offering its securities and trading them in the financial market, and providing long-term financing to give the necessary time to advance new emerging projects or faltering projects.
The thesis consisted of four chapters, the first of which dealt with the nature of a venture capital company, the second with the establishment and control of a venture capital company, the third with the financing of projects with venture capital and the fourth with the legal implications of a venture capital company.
The thesis came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is that we propose to the Iraqi legislator to establish a legal framework for venture capital companies and the possibility of organising and operating them in Iraq because of their importance in providing employment opportunities and investing in creative ideas and emerging projects, and the need to keep pace with the development of financial markets in neighbouring countries and benefit from their experiences.
