The College of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis in the international law branch by the student (Shahd Ali Nouri), entitled (Biotechnology in International Law – A Comparative Study), on Thursday, 09/14/2023, in the Akkad Hall in the college.
The thesis aims to present a fundamental study on biotechnology while addressing its principles upon which it is based and its importance in achieving food security and sustainable development. It also aims to clarify the international and regional efforts that exercise international law and international organizations to confront the effects of this technology by setting the necessary standards to regulate it.
The thesis included three chapters, the first of which dealt with the definition of biotechnology, the second chapter on the international regulation of biotechnology, while the third chapter dealt with the legal implications of biotechnology.
The thesis came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is working to realize the promise of biotechnology of reducing poverty and achieving food security in developing countries in a serious and real way, and directing and intensifying international efforts further to develop a legal instrument that includes biotechnology and confronts its negative effects.
