The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, held an awareness seminar entitled “Domestic Violence” on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The seminar was delivered by Lecturer Huda Faiq Abdul Rahman at the college building.

The seminar aimed to shed light on domestic violence as a serious social phenomenon that threatens the stability of families and society. It also highlighted the importance of protecting family members from its harmful effects and raising community awareness of the need to combat and reduce this phenomenon.

The seminar discussed the main factors contributing to the escalation of domestic violence, including psychological stress, economic hardship, unemployment, and drug abuse. It also addressed the role of limited awareness and fear of social stigma in discouraging victims from reporting incidents of violence and seeking legal and psychological assistance.

The seminar recommended strengthening the role of psychological counseling, establishing free family counseling centers that provide psychological support, and intensifying media awareness campaigns through social media platforms. These measures would contribute to raising community awareness and helping reduce domestic violence.
