The Career Development and Employment Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, held a workshop entitled “Artificial Intelligence in the Labor Market” on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Russul Hussein Hassan, a college member in the Public Law Branch, and was attended by a number of participants and individuals interested in artificial intelligence and its applications in the labor market.

The workshop examined the transformations brought about by artificial intelligence in the nature of jobs and working methods, highlighting its role in increasing productivity, improving performance efficiency, and automating repetitive tasks. It also explored new career opportunities created by these technologies, as well as the challenges associated with the future of traditional jobs and the skills required to keep pace with rapid technological developments.

The workshop also highlighted the key sectors affected by artificial intelligence applications, particularly education, law, medicine, banking, industry, media, and cybersecurity. Special emphasis was placed on its applications in the legal field, including supporting legal research, contract analysis, and document management. The importance of human oversight and professional responsibility when using intelligent systems was also emphasized.

The workshop addressed ways to prepare young people and graduates for the future demands of the labor market by developing digital skills, strengthening critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, embracing continuous learning, and verifying the accuracy of outputs generated by intelligent systems, while ensuring data protection, privacy, and academic integrity.

With regard to the Iraqi labor market, the workshop discussed opportunities to employ artificial intelligence in improving government services, university education, healthcare, and the banking sector, as well as strengthening cybersecurity. It also examined the requirements for effectively benefiting from these technologies, including developing digital infrastructure, training employees, and establishing appropriate regulations to protect rights and ensure equal access to training and employment opportunities.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the importance of artificial intelligence in developing the work environment and to encourage students and young people to acquire the skills necessary to navigate digital transformations efficiently and responsibly. This, in turn, would help enhance their career prospects and enable them to keep pace with the evolving demands of the labor market.

In conclusion, the workshop emphasized that the challenge lies not in competing with artificial intelligence, but in acquiring specialized knowledge, digital skills, and critical-thinking abilities, and in using modern technologies consciously and responsibly to create added value across various fields of work.
