The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the risks associated with drugs and psychotropic substances, introduce their different types and the factors leading to substance abuse, and highlight their physical and social consequences. It also sought to explain the legal measures adopted to combat drug abuse and limit its spread.
The seminar included a detailed explanation of the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, which regulates the legal procedures and penalties related to drug trafficking, distribution, promotion, transportation, and consumption. It also addressed the mechanisms for treating individuals affected by substance abuse through specialized healthcare centers located across Iraq’s governorates.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which were:
- Increasing the number of awareness lectures and seminars to educate individuals about the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances and their effects on individuals and society.
- Strengthening cooperation among educational institutions, security agencies, and specialized healthcare authorities to limit the spread of drugs.
- Promoting legal awareness of the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 and explaining the penalties prescribed for drug-related offenses.
- Encouraging individuals who use drugs to seek treatment and necessary care at specialized healthcare centers.
The seminar was held as part of ongoing awareness efforts aimed at reducing the risks associated with drugs and psychotropic substances and enhancing legal and health awareness among members of society.
