The College of Law at the University of Baghdad held a scientific workshop on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, entitled “Unemployment and Its Impact on the Mental Health of Iraqi Youth: A Study of Causes, Consequences, and Possible Solutions.” The workshop was presented by Asst. Lecturer Amina Hameed Khalil at the College’s Laboratory Hall.

The workshop aimed to identify the main causes of unemployment, examine its psychological and social consequences, and propose practical solutions to reduce its impact on Iraqi youth.

The workshop covered three main themes. The first theme addressed the causes of unemployment among Iraqi youth, while the second examined the impact of unemployment on their mental health. The third theme focused on possible solutions and measures to reduce the psychological effects resulting from unemployment.

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, providing low-interest loans to young people, and developing educational curricula in line with labor market needs. It also emphasized encouraging investment and creating an attractive economic environment that contributes to generating new job opportunities.

Furthermore, the recommendations included expanding vocational and technical training programs for young people, establishing psychological and social counseling centers to support unemployed individuals, and strengthening cooperation between universities and public and private sector institutions to provide training and employment opportunities.
