The College of Law at the University of Baghdad held a workshop on Monday, September 28, 2026, entitled “The Role of Educational Institutions in Combating Intellectual Extremism.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Ru’aa Talib Dawood and was held in the Moot Court Hall at the college.

The workshop aimed to encourage researchers to conduct research and studies addressing intellectual extremism, thereby contributing to identifying its causes and developing a strategic plan to help educational institutions address it. It also sought to promote education and raise awareness through organizing seminars and workshops in educational institutions, disseminating ideas of tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect, and fostering a culture of constructive criticism.

The workshop addressed three main themes. The first focused on the concept of intellectual extremism. The second examined the role of university activities in combating intellectual extremism among students. The third highlighted the role of university administration in promoting social peace among students.

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including providing a diverse educational environment; encouraging research and innovation; developing personal and social skills to enhance communication and negotiation abilities; promoting positive thinking by fostering a culture of tolerance and acceptance of others among students; and encouraging students to participate in community activities in ways that contribute to achieving sustainable development.

The seminar forms part of efforts to strengthen the role of educational institutions in raising students’ intellectual awareness and reinforcing the values of tolerance, dialogue, and acceptance of others, thereby contributing to reducing intellectual extremism and promoting social peace.
