The College of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Criminal Protection of Family Values from Cultural Pollution: An Analytical Study,” submitted by Maryam Khalil Razouqi, a student in the Criminal Law Branch. The discussion was held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in the Conference Hall at the College.
The discussion committee consisted of the following professors:

- Prof. Dr. Alaa Nasser Hussein — Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Samer Saadoun Abboud — Member
- Prof. Dr. Nawal Tariq Ibrahim — Member and Supervisor
The thesis aimed to clarify the concept of the family, examine cultural pollution and its impact on family values, identify the importance of family values, and determine the extent to which criminal protection of positive family values is necessary.
The thesis consisted of three chapters. The first chapter addressed the theoretical framework of the concepts of family values and cultural pollution. The second chapter examined the determinants of criminal protection of family values. The third chapter addressed applications of the criminal protection of family values under Iraqi criminal law.
The thesis concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which are:
- Establishing a specialized legal electronic system for family-related crimes committed through electronic means, particularly cyber extortion within the family.
- Adopting more specialized and precise legal and procedural mechanisms to encourage the reporting of family-related crimes targeting children and other vulnerable groups, while providing the necessary safeguards to protect victims and witnesses and maintain the confidentiality of their reports.

Protecting children and families from cybercrimes and content that violates the prevailing moral and social values of Iraqi society, through strengthening cybersecurity efforts.
